Gr 6 Supply Letter 2025-2026
July, 2025
Dear Sixth Grade Students and Families:
As the summer zips along, we turn our attention to the approaching school year and all of its possibilities. Sixth grade is an exciting year filled with new opportunities and responsibilities allowing students to become more independent as they work to meet increasing academic demands. It is a year filled with changes including more teachers, varied expectations, and new schedules.
On the sixth-grade team, each teacher is responsible for teaching one core subject which means that sixth grade students will now have four primary teachers. During this school year Matt Naventi will teach social studies, Jessica Oakley will teach science, Kim Cormier and Burr Milliken will teach language arts, and Angelo Gennari and Burr Milliken will teach math. Each sixth grader will be assigned a crew and the crew teacher will be the team contact for parents should there be a need to get a message to a student, schedule a team meeting, or share any concerns or questions regarding academic, social, or disciplinary issues here at school.
In order for students to be prepared from the start of the school year, we ask that students have the following supplies:
- Two one-inch binders with an interior pocket on the inside front cover and one interior pocket on the inside of the back cover. One binder will be used for language arts and the other for science, so it is important that they have two separate binders instead of one big binder or Trapper Keeper.
- A folder with two inside pockets which will be used as a homework folder. Students will be expected to have this folder with them in every class to keep track of their daily assignments. If the homework folder is lost they will be responsible for getting a replacement folder.
- One package of three hole punched white lined paper for language arts binder
- Three boxes of pencils
In addition to the above supplies, please have your child come to school every day with an independent reading book. Reading often and from different kinds of books has many benefits. It is the best way to improve vocabulary, comprehension, reading fluency, and helps students become better writers and all-around stronger students. Students will often be provided with opportunities to read at various points throughout the day and therefore it is important for them to have their independent reading books with them every day.
Communication between parents/guardians and teachers is important for ensuring student success. We invite you to email us at school (burr.milliken@bhrsd.org, matthew.naventi@bhrsd.org, jessica.oakley@bhrsd.org, kimberly.cormier@bhrsd.org, angelo.gennari@bhrsd.org) or call us at 644-2300 with any questions or concerns.
We look forward to an exciting and successful sixth grade school year. Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation and we will see you in August!
Sincerely,
The Sixth Grade Team
