W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School

Summer at a Glance, News and Note

June 21, 2022

Note from the Principal:

Hello from the start of summer!  I took a few days to actually write this end of school year note, because it took so much energy to get to the finish line well.  It was a wonderful end of the school year with lots of celebrations and activities.  We had a wonderful graduation last Thursday, sending our eighth graders off to high school.  There were many recognitions of students, faculty appreciations and student shares.  It was a fitting celebration to several long years of middle school through this pandemic for our oldest kids.  It made me hopeful for the next grades coming up through our school!

Fifth grade capped off the year with their study of Loon Lake, a fabulous mystery that unfolds as students use their skills and understanding from the past year to figure out what happened to a lake very much like ones that are in our own community, and how to find a solution to make it healthy again.  Their showcase was on the last day of school–way to go for learning all year!!!  Sixth grade got to revive an important aspect of our school culture, the annual field day at French Park.  This is an important activity that celebrates the end of the “upper elementary” program at Du Bois, and launches them into our “secondary” program for the last two years of middle school.  The seventh and eighth grade teams had awards ceremonies for their students, and fun end of year challenges to celebrate our time together.

In the next week you will receive a mailing from us with the end of year report card and other pieces of info for the past school year and this coming summer.  We will send out this “Summer at a Glance” periodically through the next two months so you have the information you need to prepare for next school year.  I hope you have a glorious summer and get time with friends and family.

Please drop me a note if you have feedback or questions at ben.doren@bhrsd.org

Be well!

Family choice for student name and identity

Massachusetts now allows for families to tell their child’s school to use a different name for a student that is not the same as the name on the birth certificate and other legal documents.  Please use this form to tell us at the middle school that you want us to use a name for your child that is different from the legal documents we have from when you enrolled them at the school or in the district.  We will update our Student Information System, PowerSchool, with the information you tell us to use, so your child’s name appears as you direct.  If this is a legal name change, please provide the documents to us so we can make the update for the legal name of the student.  Email ben.doren@bhrsd.org if you have any questions about this form or this process.
